Does Hospice just load the patient up with morphine and they die?

That could not be farther from the truth. There is no statistical data that shows that the use of morphine in the doses provided to obtain an optimal comfort level for a hospice patient hastens anyone’s demise, as I said earlier a patient with un-managed symptoms passes quicker, due to the expenditure of so much energy that they don’t have in reserve. We want our patients comfortable on the lowest dose possible, yes there may be times along the way that we may have to make adjustments to ensure optimal comfort, but those adjustments are made ethically and step by step, in consultation with you and our Doctors and only if needed.
